About the "Nom Standardization Project"

Why Standardize

As we know, almost all modern counties with its own national language has gone with reform of standardization. A writing system cannot be used for communication smoothly unless it is standardized.

To date, however, Chữnôm has never been standardized, a Vietnamese word can be represented by variant Nôm characters. As a result, people write Chữnôm according their own preference, the Nom texts might be misunderstood frequently, and this will cause the inefficiency and misunderstandings in communication.

The Committee's "Nom Standardization Project" aims to standardize Chữnôm, to remove barriers to communication and strengthen a mutual relationship

and eventually restoring Chữnôm's former status, at least as a serious, modern, legitimate alternative writing system for the Vietnamese language.
